CME Services
The CME service is one of the Benefits of Fellowship and Membership for Fellows and and Members of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and its Faculties and Institute, who are in good standing. Physicians who are not affiliated to this College or its consituent bodies should read the Information for Non-Affiliates section of this page.
The services provided by the CME Office for doctors engaged in recording their CME activities are:
* Recording and monitoring of CME returns as submitted by participating doctors
* Issuing of confirmation of submissions to doctors for their personal records
The CME service is intended for use by doctors who practise in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. Doctors engaged in a General Professional Training or Higher Medical Training programme are not required to submit CME returns.
Fellows or Members of the College, its Faculties or Institute who reside and practise outside Ireland should submit returns to the appropriate regulatory authority in that country.

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland offers a range of educational activities which are accredited for Continuing Medical Education:

Information for Non Affiliates
The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland is one of the Irish postgraduate medical training bodies that have agreed with the Medical Council to allow non-affiliated doctors to align themselves with the body appropriate to their medical specialty for the express purpose of recording and monitoring their CME activities.
Doctors residing or practising in either the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland who are not Fellows and Members of the College or its Faculties and Institute and who wish to use the CME service are entitled to do so, on payment of an annual subscription.

Attending International Events
Many doctors also attend international academic/scientific meetings, which are eligible for External CME Credit under Code I (International). Doctors attending such events are advised to take personal responsibility for registration at the event and arranging to collect their CME attendance certificates from the local organisers.

CME Cycle and Calendar
CME recording takes place continuously over a series of 5-year periods. The cycnle runs from 1st January in the first year to 31st December in the 5th year, and resumes every five years. Therefore returns should be submitted relating to educational activities that were undertaken during a particular calendar year.

Your updated CME report and new information on Competence Assurance and Continuing Medical Education are sent to the contact details you have on record with the College from time, so it is important to ensure this information is up to date.
