The RCPI Masterclass series is targeted at general physicians at the Consultant and Specialist Registrar level and is aimed at educating those at the front line of our health service to continuously improve their skill base, effectively facilitating excellence in patient care.

The series are designed for keeping doctors up to date in evolving medical practice outside their specialty area and to facilitate their continuing medical education.. The Masterclasses highlights recent advances in management of common medical conditions that frequently require hospital admission as well as discussing early intervention that may prevent hospital admission or facilitate appropriate discharge.

There are seven sessions in the 2010-2011 Masterclass series each focusing on a specific specialty.  Each session is broadcast live using webcast technology to over 26 hospitals nationwide, with over 200 delegates attending.  The sessions are also recorded and made available to trainees, members and fellows of the College as streamed podcasts via the RCPI online medical education centre.

All sessions are accredited for continuing medical education points from the RCPI.

The Clinical Updates series is designed to take a current medical topic and explore the role and contribution of various specialties in its management. The framework for each update is flexible and open, allowing for a variety of topics and specialties to be included

The target audience consists of general practitioners, specialist nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals.

There are six sessions in the 2010-2011 Clinical Updates series each focusing on a specific topic.  Each session is recorded and made available to trainees, members and fellows of the College as streamed podcasts via the RCPI Online Medical Education Centre.

All sessions are accredited for continuing medical education points from the RCPI.

Hot Topics
14th January 2011 - Healthcare Associated Infection

The Hot Topic series addresses burning issues around the prevalence of disease in a particular sub-specialty and is delivered over a full day. The day will cover the range of problems related to the selected topic and will include current and new developments addressing these issues.

The series is designed to discuss these areas of controversy and to facilitate lively and interactive debates. The target audience is primary and secondary care professionals that include physicians, pharmacists, specialist nurses, allied health professionals and students. The 2010-2011 academic year will see the launch of our Hot Topic series.

There are currently three planned days with the opportunity for additional dates. The sessions are also recorded and made available to trainees, members and fellows of the College as streamed podcasts via the RCPI Online Medical Education Centre.

All sessions are accredited for continuing medical education points from the RCPI.
