2009 SHO Matching Scheme - Complete
14/04/2009
The 2009 SHO Matching Scheme has now concluded. All candidates have been notified of Round 2 results by email and have indicated a response online

The deadline for responding to Round 2 offers was today, Tuesday 14th April at 5pm. Candidates that have accepted their first or second round offer will be contacted in due course with regard to registration on to the General Professional Training programme.

Candidates who did not receive an offer in Round 1 or Round 2 are reminded that they can pursue General Professional Training in stand-alone SHO posts that have been approved for training. Furthermore, if you were successfully shortlisted in this year’s process, your name will be on a list circulated to all hospitals in the matching scheme for any further vacancies they may have.

The term ‘stand-alone posts’ refers to posts that are filled directly by hospitals every 6 months. These posts run from July to December and January to June every year. Irish medical posts are advertised in advance in the Irish Independent (Thursdays), Sunday Independent, Medicine Weekly, Irish Medical News and Irish Medical Times. See also www.publicjobs.ie and www.hospitaljobs.ie. Hospitals are required to indicate in the advert if a post is approved for training.

Please note, if you undertake training in General Internal Medicine, Paediatrics, Histopathology or Obstetrics and Gynaecology you must register as a trainee on the General Professional Training programme with the RCPI. Registration is mandatory if you wish to have your training accredited and you cannot have training retrospectively accredited. Trainees should submit a GPT registration form to the RCPI within one month of entering their first SHO post.
