Climate Change and Health: The Role of Occupational Medicine. The 22nd Annual Smiley Lecture

The Faculty of Occupational Medicine is pleased to announce that Dr. Frumkin will deliver the 22nd Annual James Smiley Lecture at 2pm on Friday 20th November 2009 in the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, No. 6 Kildare Street.   

 

Climate Change and Health: The Role of Occupational Medicine

Howard Frumkin is Director of the National Center for Environmental Health and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (NCEH/ATSDR) at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  NCEH/ATSDR works to maintain and improve the health of the American people by promoting a healthy environment and by preventing premature death and avoidable illness and disability caused by toxic substances and other environmental hazards.

 

The Faculty of Occupational Medicine is the recognised training body for doctors practising in the specialty of occupational medicine in Ireland. It is a constituent body within the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Its aim is to promote the highest standard of health and wellbeing for those of working age; to advocate that occupational illness and disease be eliminated from workplaces; and, to speak as the authoritative voice for all issues relating to occupational medicine within the country.
 
Dr James Smiley was a founder Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine in 1976. He was a renowned occupational physician practising in Belfast. On his death, the Smiley family endowed an annual lecture named after him. Each year the Faculty of Occupational Medicine invite an eminent scholar to deliver the lecture. This year's lecture is the 21st in the series
