This course is available to all clinicians but is particularly suitable for BST/RTP/HST Trainees. It consists of a four - hour workshop session on breaking bad news to patients, their families and/or significant others.
At the end of this course participants will have enhanced communication skills in discussing bad news or difficult circumstances with patients.
Course Content will include the following:
• Death and dying in Ireland
• Bad news, what does it mean?
• Breaking bad news: the quality of communication
• The impact of communication
• Active listening
• Guidelines for breaking bad news
• Breaking bad news practice
• Difficult questions and difficult reactions
