As you know, the Clinical Indemnity Scheme (CIS) has a dual remit for clinical claims management and risk management. The Clinical Risk team is involved in a wide variety of educational endeavours designed to support effective risk management in enterprises covered by the CIS.
The CIS has developed a one-day workshop to provide Systems Analysis training, as outlined in the attached flyer. The multi-disciplinary training is directed towards senior personnel within an acute hospital who will need to conduct and participate in reviews of incidents. It is designed to equip them with systems analysis principles to enable full participation in reviews of serious and catastrophic events.
Participation in these workshops is free of charge.
To date, this training has been delivered at a large number of acute hospitals, to community based healthcare staff and to specialist groups. Over 1,000 healthcare professionals (120 of whom are Consultants) have been trained to date.
Formal evaluation of the training has indicated a universally positive response from all participants. Feedback from 432 attendees of the 511 who participated in training in 2009 indicated that 96% considered the training would influence/change their practice, and over 94% stated they would recommend the training programme to colleagues. A further 75% of the respondents rated the CIS systems analysis training day as very or extremely relevant to their clinical practice.
Most importantly, 42% of 100 respondents to an on-line survey stated that they had participated in a systems analysis review since completing the training, 9% of whom had participated in more than 3 reviews.
Given the importance of clinical leadership in the drive for patient safety, we have developed training targeting a group consisting only of Consultants and Specialist Registrars.
I am therefore writing to you to request you to circulate the attached among relevant colleagues.
