The aim of the meeting is to build capacity, confidence and competence amongst senior surgeons and physicians to conduct local incident reviews, to participate fully in sentinel event review processes and in understanding their roles and responsibilities with respect to incident reviews and the delivery of safe, reliable, quality care. It is specifically targetted at Consultants and Specialist Registrars who are working in the publicly funded healthcare service in Ireland or propose to do so within the next 6 months.
The objectives of the meeting are to give an overview of risk management principles; relate these principles to local incident management systems and processes and the role of the Consultants in actioning same; explore with Consultants systems cause analysis processes and tools using relevant sample incidents; provide opportunities for Consultants to practice more commonly used tools ; and assess participants’ understanding (pre and post test) and follow through.
The meeting will discuss risk management principles related to local specifics on incident reviews, incident analysis principles, incident analysis review practiced using relevant samples and relate incident analysis to relevant serious event management processes.
