The aims of this course are to provide senior healthcare staff (both clinical and non-clinical) with the expertise and tools to continually improve the quality of service they provide, develop expertise in leadership and team working, and develop a safer more cost effective service.
Dr David Vaughan, Director of Leadership and Quality Improvement in RCPI, said, “High-performing healthcare organisations around the world recognise the importance of training their staff in fundamental concepts of continual quality improvement. The Diploma is especially relevant to senior healthcare managers, clinical directors, senior nursing staff (clinical and management) and staff with responsibility for patient safety and quality.”
The programme will be delivered over a period of residential days from September 2012 to May 2013, at RCPI, No. 6 Kildare Street, Dublin 2. Inter-session support and mentoring will be provided via web conferencing and some off-site visits may be arranged. Faculty is a mix of national and international experts in healthcare quality improvement, patient safety, leadership development, team-working and innovation.
Participants will be required to undertake a quality improvement project in the workplace. Current participants’ projects include reducing harm in obstetric care, reducing medication harm, and increasing patient self management skills.
The Diploma in Leadership & Quality in Healthcare has been approved for over 50 CPD credits by RCPI.
