Competence Assurance Structures
In January 2003, following several years of planning and consultation, the Medical Council introduced Competence Assurance Structures (CAS). CAS is for all doctors in independent practice (i.e. those who have completed their training). Initially, half of those doctors on the Medical Council’s Register of Medical Specialists were enrolled in CAS from 1st January 2003 and the remaining doctors from 1st January 2004. New registrants are enrolled on the 1st January each year.
