Faculty of Pathology John D Kennedy Award 2010
03/01/2010
The Faculty of Pathology, RCPI is pleased to announce that applications are now being invited for the John D Kennedy Medal Award.

To commemorate the establishment of the Faculty of Pathology of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland on 10 October 1981, the Faculty introduced a research award in honour of Professor John D Kennedy, who was chair of the Irish Standing Committee of the Royal College of Pathologists, the precursor to the Faculty. Professor Kennedy was a central figure in the establishment of the Faculty and as Professor of Pathology at University College Galway was a leader in the development of pathology in Ireland.

The medal will be awarded to the young pathologist (within 7 years of completion of training) who submits what is considered by the selectors to be the best paper published in a peer-reviewed biomedical journal relating to any of the pathology disciplines. The paper must have been published in the preceding two years.

To be eligible for consideration, the pathologist must be first author and must have held an appointment in any discipline of pathology in a hospital or university in Ireland.

The Board will appoint a panel of selectors, representative of the relevant pathology disciplines, and independent of the authors, to judge the entries.
