At 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI), No 6 Kildare Street, Dublin 2, the RCPI will hold a press briefing for all medical and health journalists to coincide with the launch of the position paper on Healthcare-associated Infections and Nursing Homes or Extended Care Settings. 
 
The press briefing will be attended by members of the RCPI Policy Group on HCAI - Prof. Hilary Humphreys, Chair of the Policy Group and Professor of Clinical Microbiology at RCSI/Beaumont Hospital Dublin, and Dr. Ciaran Donegan, Consultant Geriatrician at Beaumont Hospital Dublin.  Both will discuss the challenges associated with HCAIs in long-term settings in Ireland and discuss measures to ensure the safety and quality of care for older people who are at risk of developing HCAIs in those environments.
