Section 43(8) of the Medical Practitioners Act 2007 requires all medical practitioners to quote their registration number on all medical prescriptions and all other documentation and records, whether in paper or electronic format, relating to their medical practice.
Text of Medical Council email:
On payment of your registration retention fee you will receive a Certificate of Registration from the Medical Council. On receipt of this certificate you must ensure that your Medical Council Registration Number (MCRN) is included on all prescriptions, reports and other documents pertaining to clinical data.
Registered medical practitioners may not be aware of this new requirement under section 43(8) of the Medical Practitioners Act 2007 to quote their registration number on all medical prescriptions and all other documentation and records, whether in paper or electronic format, relating to their medical practice.
This affects you as a medical practitioner for the first time when you receive your new Certificate of Registration.
While the Act does not specify the format in which your registration number should be quoted, it is suggested that you insert the words “Medical Council Registration Number ....” or “MCRN” on your pre-printed documentation. When signing or initialling hospital charts, the MCRN should be appended to your initials or signature.
