RCPI St Lukes Day Celebrations 2009

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland St Luke’s Day Celebrations 2009 will be held over two days in October and will include a blend of scientific, social and celebratory events. 

The following is a summary of these events, all of which will take place at The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, No.6 Kildare Street, Dublin 2.

Friday, October 23:

9:30 am RCPI Advanced Masterclass: Latest Advances in Clinical Practice Supported by Improved Understanding of Disease Mechanisms

Programme  to include:

- Clinical pearls case presentations based on current best evidence in the areas of Haematology, Respiratory Medicine, Hepatology and Nephrology
- Clinical updates on papers that have substantially impacted on areas of practice in recent years in the areas of Geriatric Medicine, Healthcare-Associated Infections and Endocrinology
- Debate: “Stents: the Death Knell for Coronary Artery Surgery
St Luke’s Keynote Lecture by Prof Robert Rizza, Executive Dean for Research at the Mayo Clinic USA, on the economic and human implications of chronic disease – modelling diabetes outcomes

5:00 pm RCPI Collegiate Members Committee Awards

The Collegiate Members Committee awards ceremony will include case study presentations and research abstract presentations, the best of which will be selected on the day and awarded The Corrigan Medal and William Stokes Award.

Saturday, October 24:

9:30 am RCPI St Luke’s Day Meeting - Medicine in Changing Times

Discussions will include the evolving role of the hospital in the future and protecting the patient and the doctor and a keynote lecture will be delivered by Dr Clare O’Leary Consultant Gastroenterologist, South Tipperary General Hospital, on the 3 Poles Challenge. 

5:45 pm RCPI Fellowship Admission Ceremony, Reception and Dinner

The St. Luke’s Day Fellowship Admission Ceremony and Dinner is one of the most important days in the College calendar.  Honorary Fellows, Presidents of sister Colleges as well as new Fellows are admitted at this ceremony. All Fellows of the College, Faculties and Institute are invited to attend the Admissions Ceremony and reception. Attendance at the dinner is by ticket only and is charged at €80 per person. Attendees are asked to indicate their interest in dinner tickets when registering their attendance at the Admission Ceremony.
