RCPI ePortfolio to be launched July 2011
22/06/2011
From July 2011, entrants to RCPI’s training programmes will have access to an ePortfolio, which will replace paper logbooks.

RCPI is pleased to announce that it will launch its ePortfolio in July 2011. The ePortfolio is an electronic logbook that has been developed in conjunction with NES (NHS Education for Scotland) to replace paper logbooks currently being used by trainees to record their postgraduate specialist training. The RCPI ePortfolio will be available to first-year trainees entering its three postgraduate training programmes this July.

The ePortfolio is a significant improvement on current methods being used to record trainees’ progress through their training programmes. It is a more flexible and convenient way of logging training, educational and assessment activities, and will help trainees to track their progress, and see if they are on target for mandatory requirements as laid down by their curriculum.

The ePortfolio will also make more convenient for trainers to review trainees’ progress, verify recorded information and sign-off assessments. It will form a key component of a wider range of online services offered to trainees, and will be accessed through RCPI’s private websites for trainees and Fellows.

The ePortfolio is being rolled out on a phased basis. It will be available to first-year trainees entering Basic Specialist Training, the Registrar Training Programme and Higher Specialist Training for the 2011/2012 training year. However, due to ongoing changes in the programme and curriculum for Public Health Medicine, Histopathology, Immunology and Chemical Pathology and/or the absence of new entrants for the 2011/2012 intake, the launch of the ePortfolio for trainees in these specialties will be postponed until July 2012.

RCPI is committed to ensuring the success of this project and is working closely with trainees, trainers, the ICHMT and the Faculties and Institute to provide the necessary support for the implementation of the system. If you have any queries relating to the ePortfolio, please contact the Medical Training department in the College.
