Election 
Revised Process for Election to Office of President Designate

On 18 October 2011, the term of the President of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland will come to an end.  To make arrangements for the election of a new President it is necessary to begin the process of President-Designate elections in 2010.    

Further to feedback received from the Fellowship and following careful consideration by Council, the election process is being amended to ensure that all eligible fellows will have the opportunity to easily vote.

Election Process Overview
• Call for Nominations - Deadline for receipt of nominations is Friday February 19, 2010.

• Selection of Candidates – If more than three nominations are received a postal ballot will be held during March to reduce the number of candidates.

• Election of a President Designate – During May eligible Fellows vote for the candidate of their choice using a postal ballot.

 Declaration of Results – The Fellow who receives the most votes shall be declared President-Designate in June and will be confirmed as President-Designate at the Annual Stated Meeting on October 18, 2010.

Eligibility Criteria
Any Fellow of the College who wishes to put their name forward for election for the position should meet the following conditions:

1. Ordinarily be resident in Ireland;
2. Hold Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland for at least ten years;
3. Be in good standing; and
4. Either be a current member of Council, or have served on Council or formally participated in Council within the last ten years.

Submitting a Nomination
Any Fellow of the College who meets the above conditions and wishes to put their name forward should:

• Complete the Ballot for Election Form which is available on the RCPI Online Education and Resource Centre for Fellows.

• The deadline for receipt of nominations Friday February 19, 2010.

• For Fellows who have previously received a user name and password and have questions regarding accessing the RCPI Online Education and Resource Centre, please contact the Helpdesk on +353 1 863 9721 or reform@rcpi.ie, from 9am to 5pm GMT Monday to Friday.

• Please note that log in and password details for the RCPI Online Education and Resource Centre are issued following the receipt of subscription dues.  Fellows wishing to submit a nomination will need to ensure that subscription dues are up-to-date.
