A specially funded scholarship has been established to allow Specialist Registrars train abroad for up to one year.
The Dr. Richard Steeven’s Scholarship provides Irish SpRs with the opportunity to train abroad in subspecialties and specialised skills in which training is limited or unavailable in the Republic of Ireland. The scholarship is intended to support training in novel areas of medicine that will enrich the Irish health service.
Under this scholarship the HSE will provide funding equivalent to the applicant’s current point on the SpR salary scale; the minimum period to be funded being three months, the maximum one year.
The RCPI is therefore pleased to invite SpRs on its Higher Specialist Training programmes to apply for this scholarship. Applicants must be in the latter stages of Higher Specialist Training but not currently in their final year and have a proven record of achievement. Successful applicants are expected to return to Ireland on completion of their period of training abroad.
To apply for this scholarship SpRs should submit the following to the RCPI:
• Comprehensive CV, outlining clinical and academic achievements
• Details of previous training and training currently being undertaken
• Reasons for applying for the scholarship
• Novel aspects of the training they propose to undertake abroad
• Learning objectives for the proposed period of training, including details of the skills and knowledge to be obtained abroad
• How the training could be utilised on return to Ireland
• Where the proposed training will be undertaken; details of arrangements with the relevant university/hospital/healthcare centre
The deadline for applications is 5.00pm Friday 18th September 2009.
Applications should be posted to:
