THOR Republic of Ireland Report
The Health and Occupation Reporting Network (THOR) is a network of physician led voluntary surveillance schemes to monitor the incidence and determinants of occupational disease and work-related ill-health. It also provides the participatory physicians with free regular updates as well as responding to relevant queries from them about the cases which are reported.
The Faculty encourage occupational physicians, dermatologists and chest physicians to consider becoming reporters - details of how to do this are contained within the document. THOR is an occupational health surveillance programme which has been run by the University of Manchester for several years and was introduced to Ireland in 2005 (SWORD & EPIDERM) and 2007 (OPRA).
There are three reporting schemes within THOR: OPRA is where occupational physicians provide anonymous data on cases of occupational disease / work related ill health; EPIDERM where consultant dermatologists report on occupationally related skin disease; and SWORD where consultant respiratory physicians report on cases of occupational lung disease. Reporting participants receive regular updates from the scheme in addition to CPD/CME points.
