Following the successful rollout of ePortfolio for RCPI Trainees in July this year, the ePortfolio system has been expanded to incorporate RCPI’s Professional Competence Schemes. The ePortfolio for Professional Competence, developed in conjunction with NES (NHS Education for Scotland), replaces the old method of recording professional competence activities by hand on paper forms, which then had to be posted in to the College.
Welcoming this development, Dr Mary Holohan, Chair, RCPI Education Committee, said, “This is a huge step forward for Professional Competence. It is a fantastic improvement on outdated methods currently being used to record professional competence activities, and is a more modern, flexible and convenient way of recording CPD and Clinical Audit activities. I also welcome the fact that it will help doctors to track their progress and see if they are on target for the mandatory requirements laid down by their Professional Competence Scheme.”
The ePortfolio for Professional Competence will also allow doctors to compare their activities against the Medical Council Domains of Good Professional Practice.
The first rollout of the ePortfolio for Professional Competence will be to doctors who enrolled on an RCPI Professional Competence Scheme before 8 October 2011. Following the initial launch today, 23 November, access to ePortfolio will be given to all doctors as they enrol on RCPI Schemes.
The introduction of an ePortfolio for Professional Competence is a significant change in practice for doctors, and RCPI will continue to work closely with the RCPI Education Committee, Deanery and the Faculties and Institute to provide the necessary support for the implementation of the system, to ensure the success of this project.
