Basic Specialist Training (BST) in General (Internal) Medicine and Paediatrics is regulated and certified by the Basic Specialist Training Committee. BST consists of a minimum of two years training in Senior House Officer or Registrar posts. Amongst the responsibilities of the Basic Specialist Training Committee is to oversee and maintain the standards of training for both the Hospital and the Trainee. The BST Committee is responsible for accreditation and certification of this period of training. Upon completion, a Certificate of Completion of BST is a mandatory requirement for entry into Higher Medical Training (HST) in most specialties.
