We want your feedback – Complete the 2017 Training Post Evaluation

Trainee talking to colleague.

What did you think of the RCPI training posts you completed this year?

Please complete the Training Post Evaluation before 30 June 2017

We need to know if you have any concerns about the training posts you completed this year.

We are asking all doctors in Basic Specialist Training and Higher Specialist Training to complete a short online Training Post Evaluation.

In it you will be asked to evaluate each training post you completed since July 2016, including the working conditions and the support that was, or wasn't, available to you.

Your honest feedback will help us identify any issues affecting the quality of training in specific posts or sites so that we can take action.

Please help us improve the quality of training for all RCPI Trainees by completing the Training Post Evaluation today.

The online evaluation form will remain online until 30 June 2017.

Our objective is to deliver outstanding training with accountability. By and large, I believe training is a very positive experience for our Trainees, but there are situations where we can improve training on particular sites in particular areas. The only way we can gauge this is by getting accurate feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of every training post.

What is asked in the Training Post Evaluation?

In the online evaluation form, you are asked to evaluate each training post you completed in the period July 2016 to July 2017.

You will be asked about your interaction with trainers, your satisfaction with the training provided, on-site facilities and the working environment.

To protect your anonymity, you will not be asked for any identifying information such as your name, date of birth or RCPI ID number.

Allow about 10 minutes to complete the survey.

The Training Post Evaluation will remain online until 30 June 2017.

YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE US CONFIDENTIAL FEEDBACK

Honest feedback from Trainees is enormously important. It allows us to review and improve our training programmes.

Although you already provide feedback on training at annual assessments, because these assessments are not anonymous, you may be reluctant to discuss areas of concern or negative experiences.

We developed the Training Post Evaluation to give you the opportunity to provide anonymous feedback.

You are not asked for your name, date of birth or RCPI ID number. To further protect your anonymity, we will not analyse data at training site/post level until two years of data have been collected. This will minimise the potential that individual Trainees can be identified.

How will RCPI use your feedback?

Your honest feedback will help us identify any issues affecting the quality of training in specific posts or sites so that we can take action. It will also allow us to benchmark every single RCPI training post in Ireland so that we can continue to drive improvements to training - But we cannot do this unless you complete the evaluation.

It is crucial that all Trainees give their feedback – otherwise we won’t have information about certain training posts.

Your feedback will also help us identify areas for future research and the planning of training site inspections and the placement of Trainees in posts.

Once we have analysed all responses, we will publish a summary report of issues raised by Trainees and our plan for making improvements.

A more in-depth analysis of Trainees' experiences at site and post level will take place two years after the evaluation is circulated. This delay is to protect the anonymity of Trainees who responded.

As they become available, survey findings will be published here.

Please help us improve the quality of training for all RCPI Trainees by completing the Training Post Evaluation today. The evaluation will remain online until 30 June 2017.

View the summary results of last year's Training Post Evaluation

We circulated the first Training Post Evaluation in 2016. This summary report contains really interesting information from Trainees who responded in 2016. Recommendations based on the feedback we received are included at the end of the report. Most importantly, as a direct result of the 2016 evaluation we have undertaken specific steps to enhance the training experience.

It is standard practice for medical training institutions across the globe to seek anonymous and accurate feedback on the training experience. We want to listen to our Trainees and respond to the findings. What is driving us to do this, is that we want to optimise the environment for both doctors who wish to train with us and also for the doctors who put themselves forward as Trainers. This will ensure that we can all have confidence in the standards in training in every post around the country.
