If you meet the entry requirements, the Faculty of Public Health Medicine General Division Professional Competence Scheme allows you to maintain your professional competence.

Once your enrolment is complete, we will give you access to exclusive resources and advice tailored for doctors in Public Health Medicine.

You can also browse our wide range of CPD-approved courses and educational programmes suitable for doctors in your specialty.

Entry Requirements

You must be on the General or Supervised Division of the Irish Medical Council register and hold one of the following qualifications:

  • Membership of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine of Ireland
  • Fellowship of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine of Ireland
  • Membership of the Faculty of Public Health, UK
  • Fellowship of the Faculty of Public Health, UK
  • MPH RCSI/NUI (or equivalent) and at least 50% of practice in Public Health Medicine.

If you are on the General or Supervised Division and do not meet the entry requirements for this Scheme, you can enrol on the Irish Committee on Higher Medical Training General Division Scheme.

If you are on the Specialist Division, you should enrol on a Specialist Division Professional Competence Scheme.

Were you enrolled in 2020-2021?

If you were enrolled on a Professional Competence Scheme during 2020-2021, you don’t need to complete another application. You are however required to renew your enrolment each year -  contact us if you need help with this.


Enrolment Fee

The enrolment fee for a Professional Competence Scheme is €250.

The method of payment is credit or debit card, taken at the end of the online application process. You may also pay by direct debit.

If you pay an annual subscription fee for membership of RCPI or one of our faculties, you will be entitled to a discount.

Ready to Apply for 2021-2022?

You will be asked to login to our website. If you already have login details for our website, you should log in using that username and password. Please do not create a new account for our website if you already have existing login details.

3D secure on credit card payments in Europe: It is now a requirement that City and Postcode are contained in an address.  When completing your application, please make sure the necessary details are provided before you proceed through to payment of youre enrolment fee.

Want to Renew for 2021-2022?

If you were enrolled in 2020-2021, you do not need to complete a new application form, simply log in to your Digital Hub and follow the link to renew your enrolment.

What Happens After You Enrol?

Once your enrolment is complete, we will set up your ePortfolio for Professional Competence and send you instructions on how to use it to record and monitor your progress throughout the year.
