How to prepare for year-end

Important: Medical Council Maintenance of Professional Competence requirements for 2019-2020

As you are aware, it is a legal requirement to fulfil the Medical Council Maintenance of Professional Competence requirements each year.

Doctors who have not met the requirements by 30 April 2020 will be reported to the Medical Council.

When you go to renew your registration with the Medical Council in 2020 you will be asked to declare (by selecting Yes/No):

1a.I am enrolled in a professional competence scheme in Ireland and have paid my Scheme enrolment fee for the scheme year 2020-2021
                                                                                                                   AND
1b.My Annual Statement of Participation as of May 2020 demonstrates that I am meeting my maintenance of professional competence requirements

The Medical Council will ask all Training Bodies for the registration numbers of all those who have not met the requirements for the 2019-2020 Professional Competence year.

Recording your Professional Competence requirements in your ePortfolio

Here's a checklist of what you need to record in your ePortfolio so that your Annual Statement will show that you met your Medical Council requirements for the year:

  • 1 Audit or Quality Improvement Project
  • 20 Credits in the External CPD Category
  • 20 Credits in the Internal CPD Category
  • 5 Credits in the Personal Learning CPD Category
  • 50 CPD credits recorded overall

How to prepare for year end

You do not need to add evidence to your ePortfolio to get an Annual Statement, but it is important that you collect your evidence and keep it in a safe place in case you are asked to present it at a later date.

Don't forget your Personal Learning
