With the commencement of Part 11 of the Medical Practitioners Act 2007 – Maintenance of Professional Competence – in May 2010, the Medical Council began the process of establishing Professional Competence Schemes in time for the first anniversary of this commencement in May 2011.
To improve doctors’ knowledge of their new duty to maintain competence and in particular their knowledge of the specific requirements of Professional Competence Schemes, the Medical Council is holding a half day conference on Friday 8th April 2011 in Croke Park Conference Centre entitled “Maintaining Competence, Maintaining Trust”.
The event will be focused on the theme of Professional Competence. In addition to experts in professional competence from Ireland, a number of international speakers will provide an insight into professional competence systems in other jurisdictions.
RCPI will set up an information stand to provide information on their Professional Competence Schemes.
The Conference is primarily aimed at registered medical practitioners however the event will be open to anyone with an interest in medical regulation and the work of the Medical Council.
A small administrative fee will be charged to registrants to cover Conference registration and lunch (an early bird fee of €20 is available until 11th March and thereafter a fee of €30 will be charged to Conference registrants). Conference attendees will be awarded appropriate CPD credits.
