Elections 2026: RCPI President-Designate and Ordinary Councillors
In 2026, there will be elections for the President-Designate and four Ordinary Councillors positions (three from Medicine and one from Occupational Medicine).
- President-Designate
- 3 Fellows from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (Medicine)
- 1 Fellow from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (Occupational Health)
Nominations for all these positions open on 10 March 2026.
Being elected to Council provides Fellows with an unrivalled opportunity to shape the College’s strategic development through leadership, support and advocacy roles.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
President-Designate
A Fellow (FRCPI) is eligible to hold the Office of President-Designate/President if he/she is:
- Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (FRCPI) for at least 5 years.
- In good standing.
- Is not prohibited by law from being a charity trustee.
- Is ordinarily resident in Ireland; and
- Is either a current member of Council or has served on Council within the last ten years.
Ordinary Councillor (Three seats Institute of Medicine and one Faculty of Occupational Medicine)
A Fellow (FRCPI) is eligible to hold the position of Ordinary Councillor if he/she is:
- Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (FRCPI).
- In good standing.
- Is not prohibited by law from being a charity trustee.
- Candidates must be from either Medicine or Occupational Medicine; and
- Candidates from Medicine must be from one of the nineteen recognised specialties and may only hold FRCPI.
- Candidates from Occupational Medicine must hold FRCPI and Fellowship of the Faculty of Occupational or be aligned to the Faculty of Occupational Medicine.
All members of Council will be trustees of the College. Being a trustee is an important role within the College as a registered charity. If you are considering running for election, we advise that you read the following ‘Charities Regulator – Guidance for Charity Trustees’:
