Elections 2026: RCPI President-Designate and Ordinary Councillors

Nominations are now being accepted ​​​​​​​


In 2026, elections will take place for the positions of President-Designate and four Ordinary Councillors.

The Ordinary Councillor positions will comprise three Fellows from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (Medicine) and one Fellow from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (Occupational Health).

These roles are appointed for a three-year term commencing 18 October 2026.

Nominations for all these positions open on 10 March 2026.

Eligibility Criteria for candidates

President-Designate

A Fellow (FRCPI) is eligible to hold the Office of President-Designate/President if they:

  • Have been a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (FRCPI) for at least five years
  • Are in good standing
  • Are not prohibited by law from being a charity trustee
  • Are ordinarily resident in Ireland
  • Are either a current member of Council or have served on Council within the last ten years

Ordinary Councillor 

A Fellow (FRCPI) is eligible to hold the position of Ordinary Councillor if they:

  • Are a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (FRCPI)
  • Are in good standing
  • Are not prohibited by law from being a charity trustee
  • Are from either Medicine or Occupational Medicine
    • If from Medicine, must be from one of the nineteen recognised specialties and may only hold FRCPI
    • If from Occupational Medicine, must hold FRCPI and Fellowship of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine, or be aligned to the Faculty of Occupational Medicine

All members of Council will be trustees of the College. Being a trustee is an important role within the College as a registered charity. If you are considering running for election, we advise that you read the ‘Charities Regulator – Guidance for Charity Trustees’.

Eligible Fellows must submit their online nomination form by the deadline of 4:00pm GMT on Tuesday, 28 April 2026
