Ageing well in later life

On Tuesday, 12 May 2026, the Dublin South and Wicklow Integrated Healthcare Area (IHA) Ageing Well in Later Life: Older Adults Health and Wellbeing Profile was launched at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI).

Developed through a strong partnership approach, the Profile was delivered under the sponsorship and governance of the HSE–RCPI National Clinical Programme for Older People, in collaboration with the HSE National Health Service Improvement Team, the National Health Intelligence Unit, and Public Health HSE Dublin and South East. It reflects the national clinical programme’s commitment to improving outcomes through a whole-system, clinically led and multidisciplinary approach. The Profile is grounded in international best practice and shaped by extensive stakeholder engagement, including older adults, with additional expertise provided by academic partners such as NCAD DesignLabs and UCD.

The event was opened with welcome remarks from Dr Diarmuid O’Shea, President of RCPI, followed by an address from Dr Colm Henry, Chief Clinical Officer, HSE, and regional perspectives from Ms Martina Queally, Regional Executive Officer, HSE Dublin and South East. It brought together a broad range of stakeholders to mark the publication and consider next steps for implementation.

The Profile provides a comprehensive, evidence-informed overview of older adult’s health and wellbeing in Ireland. Co-designed with older adults and key stakeholders, it includes a robust population health indicator set to support planning, performance monitoring, and service improvement, and offers a scalable model for national adoption.
