Many of the determinants of health are outside the scope of the health services and relate to how society is organised. The political system and its priorities have a significant influence in this respect.  A coordinated response across all sectors of society is required to improve the health and well-being of the population and reduce inequalities.

The Faculty of Public Health Medicine, RCPI proposes 19 recommendations to protect and improve the health of the people of Ireland, and encourages the public and political parties to consider these issues in the forthcoming general election and beyond.
