The NSAFP is aimed at medical trainees who wish to specialise in research or a career in academic medicine. Following completion of the NSAFP the trainee will be awarded with a CSCST and a PHD. Funding will be provided for salary and salary-related costs (based on the trainee’s appropriate point on the SpR/SR scale), for research running costs, a travel grant to enable research experience abroad and a training and development allowance. Closing date for Applications is the 31st January 2011. The HRB/HSE will assess the applications forwarded by each training body. Interviews will be conducted in March/April 2011. There are 1-2 positions available in total in this round.
There are two types of candidates eligible to apply for this programme:
1) Candidates who are currently enrolled in an SpR/SR training programme. These candidates must have a minimum of two years further clinical training, as at 11th July 2011, to be completed before eligibility for CSCST.
2) Candidates who have applied for July 2011 entry onto the SpR/SR training programme

• Original SpR/SR application form (should be obtainable from your training body).
• The Supplementary NSAFP application form addressing questions relating to the academic/research component
• Letter of support for the nominated academic (research) supervisor
• Curriculum Vitae
