New Officers Elected in The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland announces the election of Prof. John Crowe, President Designate and Prof. Conor O’Keane, Treasurer following the Annual Stated Meeting held  on 18 October 2010 at RCPI, No.6 Kildare Street, Dublin 2  

 
 

President Designate
Prof. John Crowe is elected to the role of President-Designate of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, taking up his position with immediate effect on the Executive Committee, Council and other committees as defined in the College by-laws.  As President Designate, Prof. Crowe will be formally elected as President of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland at the Annual Stated Meeting on 18 October 2011.

Prof. Crowe is a Consultant Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin and Newman Clinical Research Professor at University College Dublin.   He has been actively involved in the College as a member of Council since 2001 and has held many senior posts, most recently as Treasurer.

Treasurer
Prof. Conor O’Keane is elected to the role of Treasurer of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland.  Prof. O’Keane takes up his position on the Executive Committee, Council and other committees as defined in the College by-laws with immediate effect.

Prof. O’Keane is a Consultant Histopathologist at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Dublin where he also holds the position of Chair of the Medical Board and Clinical Director. He has a broad knowledge of College affairs having served as both a member of Council and as Dean of the College’s Faculty of Pathology since 2007.  

Further Appointments: Vice President, Censors and Senior Fellows on Council

Dr. Mary Holohan is elected as Vice President and Censor.  Dr. Holohan, a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologists at the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin, is the Chair of the RCPI Education Committee and has been a member of Council since 2006.

Dr. John Barragry is elected as Censor.  Dr. Barragry, a Consultant Endocrinologist at Tallaght Hospital, Dublin, has been actively involved in the College for a number of years, most recently as a Senior Fellow on Council.

Following the Election ballot for Senior Fellows on Council, the following five successful candidates were formally elected at the Annual Stated Meeting on 18 October 2010.

Dr. Peter Daly, FRCPI
Prof. Hilary Humphreys, FRCPI
Prof. Dermot Kelleher, FRCPI
Dr. Kate McGarry, FRCPI

Prof Mary Horgan, FRCPI and Dr Liam Bannan, FRCPI, have also been co-opted onto Council to provide for broader regional representation.
