Public Health Emergencies is a day event predominantly aimed at those who deal with health protection issues both during the working day and on-call in the evening and during weekends. This includes Public Health Specialists, Senior Medical Officers and Specialist Registrars in Public Health. Some emphasis will be on addressing the needs of those who work on-call but not necessarily work in health protection during normal working hours.
The title of the day Public Health Emergencies denotes any public health issue that arises which requires immediate attention during the day, in the evening on-call or during the weekend on-call - anything that ‘you drop everything for’.
Public Health Emergencies will feature keynote presentations from Dr. Jeremy Hawker covering new and emerging health protection on-call. In addition to Dr. Hawker will be a number of presentations made by people on the ground, who use real incidences and examples to facilitate learning. Discussion will be facilitated and encouraged.
Specifically, the aims of the day are to:
• summarize the general principles of health protection on-call.
• update participants on routine common public health emergency issues.
• use real incidences to discuss and learn about difficulties that may arise during public health emergencies.
• consider emerging health protection on-call issues of interest and significance.
