The Corrigan Lecture was introduced in the 1980’s as a competition amongst doctors in training to recognise excellence in communication and raise awareness among all doctors of the importance of communicating with patients and communication with them in a language they understand.
The winner of the Lecture is awarded the Corrigan Medal, named after past-President (1859-1863) of the College, Sir Dominic Corrigan. This competition is organised by the Collegiate Members Committee of RCPI.
This year’s winner who presented her work as part of the RCPI St. Luke’s Day Symposium activity was Dr Louise Connell. Louise is currently working as a Medical Oncology Registrar in Cork University Hospital and has previously worked as a Medical SHO in Cork University Hospital, with particular interest in cancer survivorship.
