St Luke's Day Symposium 2010

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland hosted their annual St Luke’s Day Symposium on Friday 5 and Saturday 6 November 2010. This event included a blend of scientific, social and celebratory events.

Friday 5 November

RCPI Acute Medicine Masterclass delivered a combination of state of the art lectures, clinical pearls and debates on current major topical and controversial medical issues. It also highlighted recent publications in major medical journals that have impacted on practice in recent years.

The extensive programme includes :

Clinical Pearls: case presentations on clinical case scenarios based on best practice and future horizons in the treatment/management of the conditions. 

Clinical Updates: presentations of three papers that have substantially impacted on areas of practice.

Debate on Stroke: Rehabilitation or Thrombolysis – is it one or the other?”

St Luke's Keynote Lecture: How Doctors Think.  Staying fresh in changing times”

RCPI Collegiate Members Committee Awards: 
The Collegiate Members Committee awards ceremony will include case study presentations and research abstract presentations, the best of which will be selected on the day and awarded The Corrigan Medal and William Stokes Award.

Saturday 6 November

Medicine in Changing Times: 

This meeting will discuss both protecting the patient and doctor and leading change in service delivery.

John Feely Lecture: “Relationship between Training and Quality in Practice”

Admission Ceremony:
The St. Luke’s Day Admission Ceremony is a very prestigious event in the College calendar.  Honorary Fellows, Presidents of Sister Colleges as well as new Fellows are admitted at this ceremony.  This year the Honorary Fellows being admitted were David Andrews and Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham PC, KBE.
