Become an RCPI Trainer

RCPI Trainers play a crucial role in the delivery of our Basic and Higher Specialist Training programmes. They guide our Trainees along the path to becoming a specialist and help the next generation of medical leaders reach their full potential.

As an RCPI Trainer, you have access to motivated, highly-skilled Trainees who have been successfully appointed following a competitive process. These are Trainees who will contribute to a high quality service.

As an RCPI Trainer, we will provide you with advice, training and support through our Physicians as Trainers educational programme.

Become an RCPI Examiner

Becoming an RCPI Examiner will help you to improve your own teaching practice, as you will be able to give in-depth exam advice to Trainees who are preparing for MRCPI exams. You will also gain a deeper understanding of the clinical skills and acumen you should expect from a Trainee exiting BST and entering HST.

To examine for RCPI, you will need to:

  • hold a substantive consultant post or have retired from clinical practice within the last 12 months
  • be a Member or Fellow of RCPI in good standing or a Fellow of an equivalent college
  • be on a professional competence scheme (as examiners are awarded CPD points)

If you do not meet one of the above points, you can provide a CV to be reviewed and considered.

Join an RCPI Committee or Working Group

RCPI Council and its board and committees govern the RCPI. As one of our Trainees, Members or Fellows, you may be eligible to join one of the RCPI boards or committees

To find out more about RCPI Council, board and committees and for contact details and information on how to get involved, please click here to visit the Our People section.

Also, on occasion there are opportunities for our Trainees, Members and Fellows to get involved in working groups. We announce calls to join working groups in the President’s ezine and list current opportunities on this page.

Contribute to Our Advocacy and Policy Groups

Is there a health-related policy or advocacy issue you want to highlight?

RCPI has long been a well-respected voice in public health debates. Our Trainees, Members and Fellows lead initiatives and discussions that influence government policies, legislation and shape public debate. In recent years we have been to the forefront of policy and advocacy in the areas of vaccination, screening, alcohol, obesity, tobacco, physical activity and ageing.
