Institute of Medicine Autumn Symposium at No. 6 Kildare Street

The Institute of Medicine held its Autumn Symposium on 8 September 2023 at No. 6 Kildare Street. The symposium was centred around two primary themes: Internal Medicine for the Acute Physician and Artificial Intelligence in Medicine into the Future. 

During the event, Dr John Sheehan, Consultant Radiologist at Blackrock Health, delivered a keynote speech titled "Transforming Medicine: How AI, Augmented Reality, and Quantum Computing are Shaping Our Future." His insightful talk highlighted the exciting potential of technologies and the incredible impact technology is already having on the healthcare industry. The session ended with a panel discussion featuring clinicians and non-medical experts in this area.

At the event, Prof Mary Horgan, the President of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, shared her reflections on the learnings gained during her two-term tenure.

  • Reflections on learnings as President of RCPI, Prof Mary Horgan, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland 

  • Respiratory - Dr Alex Franciosi, Consultant in Respiratory, St Vincent’s University Hospital 

  • Infectious Diseases - a Changing Landscape - Dr Sarah O’Connell, Consultant in Infectious Diseases, Cork University Hospital 

  • Nephrology Update - Dr John Holian, Consultant Nephrologist, St Vincent’s University Hospital 

  • Training in Internal Medicine: the OPTIMISE Project - Prof Anthony O’Connor, Consultant Gastroenterologist at Tallaght University Hospital
