Training Programme Applications Open 7 October

The online application process for Basic Specialist Training (BST) and Higher Specialist Training (HST) will open on Monday, 7 October and close on Thursday, 14 November. Successful applications will commence on their training programme in June 2025.

The Taught Programme

Following an extensive review of RCPI training programmes, a new BST Taught Programme was launched last year. The programme consists of modular elements with curriculum components provided at correct and relevant stages of training.

Taught Programmes were rolled out for BST year two and for those commencing on BST year on and HST year one in June 2024.

The duration of training is the same as before.

Basic Specialist Training

We offer BST programmes in General Internal Medicine, General Paediatrics, Histopathology, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. This is a hospital-based training program completed in Senior House Officer posts.

HST is a four-to-six-year training programme completed in Specialist Registrar (SpR) posts, with programs available in 29 specialties.
