The Irish Committee on Higher Medical Training General Division Professional Competence Scheme allows doctors in a wide range of circumstances meet their professional competence requirements.

This Scheme may be the best option for you if you’re finding it difficult to match your qualifications and area of practice to other Professional Competence Schemes.

Once your enrolment is complete, we will give you access to exclusive resources and advice tailored for doctors who need to maintain professional competence.

Entry Requirements

You must be on the General or Supervised Division of the Irish Medical Council register to enrol.

If you are on the General or Supervised Division and do not meet the entry requirements for other Schemes, you can enrol on the Irish Committee on Higher Medical Training General Division Scheme.

If you are on the Specialist Division, you should enrol on a Specialist Division Professional Competence Scheme.

Have You Enrolled Before?

If you were enrolled on a Professional Competence Scheme during 2020-2021, you don’t need to complete another application. You are however required to renew your enrolment each year - just log in to and you will find the link to pay.  Contact us if you need help with this.


Enrolment Fee

The enrolment fee for a Professional Competence Scheme is €250.

The method of payment is credit or debit card, taken at the end of the online application process. You may also pay by direct debit.

If you pay an annual subscription fee for membership of RCPI or one of our faculties, you will be entitled to a discount.

You will be asked to login to our website. If you already have login details for our website, you should log in using that username and password. Please do not create a new account for our website if you already have existing login details.

Want to Renew for 2021-2022?

If you were enrolled in 2020-2021, you do not need to complete a new application form, simply log in to your Digital Hub and follow the link to renew your enrolment.

What Happens After You Enrol?

Once your enrolment is complete, we will set up your ePortfolio for Professional Competence and send you instructions on how to use it to record and monitor your progress throughout the year.
