Senior Management Team

The role of the Senior Management Team is to deliver upon the objectives of the strategic plan, to ensure the smooth operation of RCPI’s core business and to ensure compliance with the college’s legal and financial obligations. The Senior Management Team facilitates an integrated approach to the delivery of the RCPI strategy and ensures that operational matters are managed efficiently.

 

Meet the Team

Audrey Houlihan , CEO of RCPI

Audrey Houlihan

Chief Executive Officer

Audrey Houlihan is the Chief Executive Officer of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Audrey holds over 20 years’ experience in executive and senior leadership roles within the not-for-profit sector.

Prior to joining RCPI, Audrey held the position of CEO at Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services (OLHCS) where she provided strategic leadership including clinical and corporate governance responsibilities across three hospice sites providing specialist services to people with a wide range of needs from rehabilitation to end-of-life care. Audrey led a transformational change programme and achieved significant growth in the organisation.

During her tenure, she was appointed to several national committees and Director roles that provide advisory services related to policy, strategy and service development matters.

Sheila Gallagher

Chief Financial Officer

Sheila Gallagher is the Chief Financial Officer at RCPI. She joined the College in January 2019 and is responsible for the strategic financial management and growth of RCPI. Sheila has over twenty years’ experience in governance, financial management, organisational change, strategic planning and business development. A former Director for a number of years in RTÉ, Irelands National Broadcaster, Sheila is a fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and a holds degree in Business and Finance from DCU.

Colm Small

Head of Training and Examinations

Colm has overall responsibility for our Training and Examinations Departments. He joined the College in November 2019. Colm graduated from UCD with a B. Comm in 1992 and in 1993 with a Masters in Business from the UCD Smurfit School of Business.

He has over over twenty years’ experience in the higher education and development space.  Colm spent a number of years in UCD in various senior managerial roles before joining the RCPI. The most recent of these being Head of UCD Smurfit’s student recruitment and admissions.

Michael Hughes

Michael Hughes

Chief Technology Officer

Michael joined RCPI in 2017 and has more than 25 years in the fields of information technology and organisational transformation, having worked in both public and private sectors. 

As CTO, Michael shapes RCPI’s technological direction, while overseeing IT initiatives and digital information security. A strong advocate of change management, he believes in taking calculated risks to yield high-impact results and seize opportunities.

Michael holds an a Bachelor in Business Studies from DKIT and a Masters in Computing and Information Systems from University of Ulster.

Siobhán Creaton

Head of Communications and Public Affairs

Siobhán Creaton is Head of Communications and Public Affairs. She leads RCPI’s engagement with the media, the public and with Government. Siobhán has successfully led initiatives such as the public affairs and advocacy campaigns for the introduction of new public health legislation, works with the National Immunisation Advisory Committee and is RCPI’s representative on bodies such as the Vaccine Alliance and Alcohol Health Alliance.

Before joining RCPI, Siobhán was Director of Communications at the Department of Education and Skills and was a Special Advisor to the Minister for Education. She also worked as a journalist, broadcaster and author.

Sinéad Lucey

Head of Business Development

Sinéad is Head of Business Development for the RCPI overseeing strategic priorities in marketing, membership and fellowship, international training programmes and product development. Prior to joining the college Sinéad headed up business development for the Environment, Engineering and Emerging Technologies (E3) project at Trinity College Dublin and prior to that was Head of International Affairs for the Irish Universities Association for 9 years.

Sinéad holds a Bachelor of Commerce from University College Cork and a Masters in Global Development from the University of London.

Trevor Duffy

Director of Healthcare Leadership

Prof Trevor Duffy is Director of Healthcare Leadership at RCPI. He is a Consultant Rheumatologist at the Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown and the Hermitage Medical Clinic and is Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at RCSI. Following specialist training in Ireland he was a Rheumatology Fellow at the Hospital Universitaire Cantonal de Geneve where he subsequently became a Chef de Clinique.

He has significant experience in healthcare strategy and leadership roles, including stints as Lead Clinical Director at Connolly Hospital; President of the IMO from 2014 to 2015 and IMO delegate to the UEMS (Union Européan des Medicins Specialists).
