Training Site Quality Improvement Process

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland is committed to delivering world-class postgraduate training.

Overview of the RCPI Training Site Quality Improvement Process

In line with international and national practices, RCPI identified the need to transfer from a hospital inspection process to a continuous quality-improvement model. This model evaluates the Trainee, Trainer and site environmental factors that influence training outcomes.

This model launched in 2021 after the development of a comprehensive system for the review of all training sites, which link explicitly to specialty curricula, training standards and set criteria.

Through the Site QI process, sites which are successfully visited are granted approval to deliver training within the defined specialties for a 5-year period unless issues arise. An annual return of key quality metrics from the site is requested during the 5-year approval period.
