Our Commitment to Accessibility
Last updated: 07 July 2026
The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) is committed to ensuring that our digital services are accessible to all users, regardless of ability or technology.
We are committed to providing an inclusive digital experience and to continually improving the accessibility and usability of our website. Accessibility considerations form part of our ongoing website development, content publishing and review processes.
RCPI aims to meet the accessibility requirements of EN 301 549, the European standard for digital accessibility, and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. We also seek to align new development and content updates with WCAG 2.2 Level AA where practical.
Compliance Status
This website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA due to the non-accessible content and limitations identified below. Our accessibility programme includes ongoing review, testing and remediation activities designed to improve compliance over time.
How we Assess Accessibility
RCPI undertakes periodic accessibility reviews of the website using a combination of automated and manual testing techniques.
Assessment activities may include:
- Automated accessibility testing tools.
- Keyboard only navigation testing.
- Colour contrast analysis.
- Screen reader compatibility checks.
- Manual review of representative website templates and user journeys.
Accessibility findings are reviewed and prioritised as part of our ongoing website maintenance and improvement programme.
Non Accessible Content
While significant efforts have been made to improve accessibility across the RCPI website, we recognise that some content may not yet fully meet accessibility requirements.
Some historic PDF documents published on the website may not be fully accessible to users of assistive technologies.
Potential issues may include:
- Missing document structure and heading hierarchy.
- Missing alternative text for images.
- Reading order issues.
- Complex tables that are not fully accessible.
- Documents created before current accessibility processes were introduced.
RCPI is working to improve the accessibility of newly published documents and to review key legacy documents over time. Users requiring information from a PDF in an alternative format are encouraged to contact us using the details below.
Historic Content
Some older website content may not fully conform to current accessibility standards. As pages are reviewed, updated or replaced, accessibility improvements will be incorporated where practical.
Third-Party Content and Systems
The website may contain links to, integrations with, or embedded content from third party systems. While RCPI seeks to work with suppliers that support accessibility, we cannot guarantee the accessibility of content or functionality that is outside our direct control.
Ongoing Accessibility Improvements
RCPI is committed to continuous improvement and is actively working to:
- Address issues identified through accessibility audits and reviews.
- Improve accessibility of legacy PDF documents where feasible.
- Ensure new website content follows accessibility best practice.
- Provide guidance and support to content editors.
- Monitor changes to accessibility legislation and standards.
- Incorporate accessibility considerations into future website enhancements.

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of this website.
