National Clinical Programmes

Over the past two years the HSE Chief Clinical Officer, Dr Colm Henry, has undertaken a review of the clinical programmes many of which have been in existence since 2009/10. There is a reform of the clinical programme planned to align with recent HSE regionalisation and an increased emphasis on a population health management and supporting the integration of community and hospital care across the system.

The National Clinical Programme for Respiratory Disease (COPD and Asthma) provides leadership, expertise and support to health region teams to implement COPD and Asthma models of care. Since 2022 there are 26 out of a planned 30 Chronic Disease- Community Specialist Teams in place, including 23 Integrated Care Respiratory Consultants working through ambulatory hubs.
