Annual Report 2025-2026

Professional Competence Scheme 2025-2026

A total of 281 RCPI activities (1789 hours) were approved for CPD credits between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026.  RCPI also facilitates a process of reviewing and approving external activities provided by other individuals or bodies for the purpose of awarding CPD Credits.  During the period 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026 RCPI approved a total of 625 activities (3569 hours) provided by other individuals or bodies.

The new CPD Accreditation Framework was successfully launched on 1 July 2026.  To support the transition, the RCPI website was comprehensively updated with information on the new framework, including detailed guidance and instructions for Activity Organisers.  A new online application form was also introduced to facilitate the accreditation process.  Since implementation, both RCPI and external Activity Organisers have engaged positively with the new application process.

The new framework reflects the Medical Council’s updated approach to CPD accreditation and introduces enhanced standards to support delivery of high-quality, independent and evidence-based educational activities.

Key changes include strengthened accreditation criteria to ensure academic rigour and relevance to doctors’ learning needs, together with new requirements designed to safeguard the integrity and independence of accredited CPD provision.
