Overview

The National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) is involved in assessing evidence and liaising with international stakeholders on the use of vaccines to inform the national immunisation programme. NIAC provides evidence-based advice to the Department of Health on vaccinations.

NIAC provides recommendations to the Department of Health on COVID-19 vaccinations. The rollout of the COVID-19 vaccination programme is implemented by the Department of Health and the Health Service Executive. Following the European Commission authorisation of COVID-19 vaccines, i.e., Comirnaty, JCOVDEN, Nuvaxovid, Spikevax, Vaxzevria, VidPrevtyn Beta, Bimervax, and Valneva, NIAC developed recommendations for their use in Ireland, which are contained in the Immunisation Guidelines for Ireland. These guidelines are regularly updated and include guidance on new vaccines as they are approved.
