A delegation from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and the Health Service Executive HSE visited Zambia in Autumn 2025, reinforcing our shared commitment to collaboration to advance postgraduate specialist training and medical education in Zambia.
The visit included engagements with key partners, including the Zambia Medical Association (ZMA), the Zambia College of Medicine and Surgery (ZACOMS), Levy Mwanawasa Medical University (LMMU), and the Zambia College of Physicians (ZACOPH). Discussions focused on strengthening specialist training programmes, expanding academic collaboration, and sharing best practice in medical education.
During the visit, the Irish delegation had the privilege of attending the Zambia College of Medicine and Surgery graduation ceremony. During this event, Zambia celebrated the addition of 70 new specialists across 14 different specialties, an important milestone in strengthening the country’s healthcare capacity.
RCPI acknowledged the leadership of Zambian partners, including the Zambia College of Medicine and Surgery for their continued commitment to advancing specialist training and public health leadership. The visit concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Health Service Executive (HSE), RCPI, and the Ministry of Health in Zambia, aimed at supporting improved health outcomes for the people of Zambia.
