Considerable work continues to design the national dataset and develop local data collection processes. To inform the development of KQIs, several workstreams are being undertaken in parallel, including a review of international guidelines and published evidence, contributions to the configuration of the new endoscopy reporting system (ERS), local clinical audit activity across working group member hospitals, ongoing clinical discussion and expert input. These measures will be captured for both adult bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) procedures, with an initial focus on patients undergoing investigation for suspected cancer.
Highlights from the Data Report which will be available in November 2026
-
A QI network of 24 respiratory clinicians is in place in public hospitals and growing.
-
5 key quality areas agreed, access to procedures, safety, complication rates, indicators of procedure success and patient experience.
-
3 Procedure Types: adult bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound and combined procedures.
-
KQIs for sedation doses and levels, reversal agents, complication rates and comfort score agreed on by the working group.
-
Focus now on the key quality area of indicators of procedure success, and more specifically the rate of repeat procedure. Access or Turn Around Time is a further key quality area under review.
