Over the course of eleven years of reporting, continued improvements have been observed in both the completeness and quality of data submitted by participating sites, as well as in the proportion of clinicians achieving established performance standards. The programme has also commenced work on the development of a further key quality indicator in withdrawal times, this is in addition to the recently completed work on endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) indicators and targets.
Key Report Findings, 10th Annual National Data Report
The National GI Endoscopy QI (NEQI) Programme’s 10th National Data Report highlighted a 3.2% increase in workload, with 313,106 procedures recorded. As in the previous year’s analysis notable improvements in the percentages of consultant endoscopists meeting KQI targets were seen in polyp detection, caecal intubation, and sedation practices in older patients. The 10th national data report also contained two spotlight sections outlining a further investigation into two areas of interest. The first looked at the results of a compliance survey which was carried out by the NEQI programme in Q1 2025 to understand difficulties that participating units were experiencing when trying to meet the NQAIS-Endoscopy upload schedule deadlines, identifying “time issues” and “IT issues” as the main factors affecting data uploads. The second analysed procedures listed in NQAIS-Endoscopy as having only used pethidine or fentanyl, with no midazolam, propofol or general anaesthetic used. To analyse these procedures further, the working group will set out a definition for what qualifies as a sedated procedure in the next iteration of the NEQI guidelines.
Full report will be available in November 2026. Some highlights include:
