RCPI trainees gather for annual Wellbeing Day 2026
The RCPI Trainee Health and Wellbeing Committee hosted its annual Wellbeing Day on Friday, 13 March 2026. Over 80 trainees from across all RCPI specialties attended, making for a diverse and vibrant day at No. 6, and highlighting the importance of wellbeing during the training years.
For the first time, this year’s Wellbeing Day was recognised as a study day. The Trainee Committee would like to thank all RCPI faculties and institutes for recognising the event in this way, further reinforcing wellbeing as a core component of the curriculum. With a wide array of expert speakers, the programme included talks on topics such as breathwork, sleep, the PERMA model, psychology for doctors, and sports and medicine. Participants also had opportunities to take part in workshops in yoga, mindfulness, life design, and supplements and nutrition.
Wellbeing Day 2026 concluded with a very competitive quiz and beautiful music from the doctors’ orchestra. The event provided an important opportunity for trainees to take a break from their clinical workload, meet trainees from other specialties in a positive and inclusive setting, and learn skills that will be helpful throughout their careers.
Dr Diarmuid O'Shea, RCPI President, thanked the Trainee Health and Wellbeing Committee for organising such a successful event:
“It is easy to get lost in the busyness of work, training and family commitments, particularly in an always-on world. I am grateful to the RCPI Trainee Committee and our Wellbeing Manager, Maria Golden, who supports them, for reminding us how important it is to prioritise our own health and wellbeing. As we dedicate ourselves to caring for others, it is all too easy to forget to make time to care for ourselves. Yet this is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves, for our colleagues, and for our patients. I would also like to commend the faculties and institutes for recognising Wellbeing Day 2026 as an official study day.”
