Updates from recent Council meetings

The following are updates from an RCPI Council meeting held on 7 March 2025. Council is the governing body of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. It sets our mission, vision and strategic direction, and approves general policies. Council also ensures the accountability of RCPI by monitoring and supporting the implementation of policies, directives and general functions.

 

RCPI Strategy 2025 -2029

A draft copy of the RCPI Strategic Plan 2025 - 2029 has been shared with the NDTP and with 
patient and public engagement groups for their input. Overall both groups have had positive feedback. The next step is for the strategy steering group to meet and sign off on the final document before the official launch.

 

Reasonable Adjustments in Training

RCPI's Director of Training, Education and Lifelong Learning presented a paper and proposal to Council to establish a working group to develop formal structures and frameworks to manage reasonable adjustments in training and make any recommendations it sees fit, which was approved. The working group will be tasked with: 

  • Reviewing expert guidance from Occupational Medicine, international 
    best practice and legal perspectives
  • Defining whether Reasonable Adjustments should be managed at the 
    Faculty/Institute level or College-wide.
  • Developing clear Terms of Reference for a Reasonable Adjustments 
    Committee(s).
  • Drafting and approving policies and procedures to guide decision-making.
 

Council Elections 2025

Timelines and eligibility requirements for 5 Ordinary Councillor Seats for the 2025 RCPI Council elections were approved. The elections will see 5 fellows elected to Council including two from Medicine, one from Public Health Medicine, one from Pathology, and one from Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

 

NIAC Update

The MoU and data transfer agreement with HIQA have been completed. The data transfer and transfer of the secretariat to HIQA has commenced and will be completed by 31 March. RCPI is very proud of its long association with NIAC and wish them every success in the future.

 

Updates to the Executive Committee TOR

Updates to the RCPI Executive Committee Term of Reference in relation to annual subscriptions and meetings frequency were approved by Council.
