People and Culture

Our college is empowered by a community of professional and clinical staff collaborating and innovating to deliver the highest standards of postgraduate medical education, training and advocacy to empower advancements in health care and to improve health globally. A positive culture is founded in the wellbeing of individuals and we provide a range of wellbeing supports for our staff and trainees.

Standards of Excellence

The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland was accredited by Great Places to Work in 2024 and maintained this award in 2025 and 2026. Regular consultation with staff, including the Great Places to Work survey, ensures that everyone's voice matters and feedback is actionable. RCPI continued to advance its commitment to wellbeing, inclusion, diversity and equality through its WIDE programme. During the year, work included enhancing policies and practices, strengthening staff engagement and voice, and expanding learning and awareness initiatives. We hosted our inaugural WIDE Day and launched a new WIDE e-learning programme for staff to support inclusive practices. Together, these initiatives demonstrate RCPI's ongoing commitment to fostering a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and supported to thrive.

Wellbeing supports for trainees and learners

The dedicated Health and Wellbeing function continued to expand its reach and impact across RCPI training programmes throughout the 2025-2026 College year. More than 60 trainees received support, with interventions ranging from advice and signposting to ongoing wellbeing support. Ten years since the first of its kind wellbeing survey, a national survey of hospital doctors was launched to inform the sustainability of the medical workforce, led by Aspire Fellow, Professor Mary T. O'Neill. Significant progress was also made in developing policies and resources to support trainees, and we are delighted to report that the Consultant Mentoring Programme expanded to over 20 mentors, increasing the availability of experienced support for trainees.
