Important Updates

If you are an RCPI trainee please note, some of our examinations dates might clash with your tutorials, please bear in mind this when booking your examination.

Update 13 October 2025

Format changes to MRCPI Paediatrics Part II Written Examination

Single Best Answer (SBA) paper to replace Short Answer Question (SAQ) paper with effect from March 2026 Examination.

The new format will consist of two SBA papers, each paper has 60 questions, 2 hours in duration with an hour break in between. The exam blueprint remains the same across both papers.

Candidates must achieve a passing score on the examination overall (Paper One and Paper Two combined), without needing to pass each paper individually.

The standard of the exam will remain the same and continues to align with the Basic Specialist Training Curriculum. This change is designed to maintain the integrity and clinical relevance of the examination, while ensuring it remains a fair, reliable, and prestigious postgraduate qualification.

The format of the Part I Written and Part II Clinical examinations will remain unchanged. MRCPI Paediatrics

Additional note for written exam candidates taking the exam from India

If you are sitting your written examination within India there is a requirement to pay an 18% Indian Goods and Services Tax (GST). This is not a charge imposed by the College but a legal requirement for educational and examination related services conducted in India. This tax applies only to candidates sitting their examinations in India. Once the application is submitted by the candidate and verified by RCPI, these candidates will be contacted by the RCPI Exams Department and requested to pay the 18% tax. The tax must be paid within 7 working days of this request. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the exam place and the application will be withdrawn. Please see the Indian Goods and Services Tax (GST) FAQ for further details by clicking on Examination Policies and Resources.
