Changes to Examinations Cancellation Policy (re Deferrals)

26 August 2025

The timeline for submission of deferrals requests and payments will change from August 2025. This policy adaptation will ensure the Examinations Department continue to manage the increased number of deferrals efficiently.

This policy update is applicable for examination applications opening after the 25 August 2025, find the Cancellation Policy on this page.

All examination deferral requests must be submitted no later than seven working days before the examination date. A non-refundable administrative fee of €100 continues to apply. By submitting a deferral request and paying the fee, candidates will be removed from the registration list for the current examination. The administrative fee must be paid within seven working days of submitting the deferral request.

If you need to request a late deferral and/or a deferral fee waiver, due to extenuating circumstances you must do so in writing to the Examinations Operations Manager to exams@rcpi.ie . Please reference the full policy before submitting the request.

Once the application is submitted by the candidate and verified by RCPI, these candidates will be contacted by the RCPI Exams Department and requested to pay the 18% tax. The tax must be paid within 7 working days of this request. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of the exam place and the application will be withdrawn. Please see the Indian Goods and Services Tax (GST) FAQ for further details by clicking on Examination Policies and Resources.

MRCPI General Medicine Part II Clinical | Ireland

Ireland Clinical Examinations

Our next examinations in Ireland are currently planned to take place between 22 September - 18 October 2025, this is subject to change but we do plan to hold the examinations between these dates. The application to register interest closed on Wednesday, 30th July at 5pm Irish time.

Candidates awaiting results from the Part II Written exam in July cannot apply until they receive their results. You should not apply unless you are eligible. We may reopen the examination after the planned closing date, we will communicate this to candidates after the exam results are sent if they passed.

Candidates who have sat or are due to sit another clinical examination cannot apply for any clinical examinations until they have received their results.

As there are a large number of candidates waiting to take the MRCPI Part II GM Clinical Examination in 2025, the number of applications is expected to exceed the places we can offer at this time. As with previous diets, places will be prioritised as outlined in the FAQ.

All candidates will be contacted within the 2 weeks following the closing date (before 13 August) informing them if we can offer a place or not. Those offered a place will need to pay the outstanding fees to confirm their slot. Once places are accepted and allocated, we will then allocate candidates to their specific venues/dates. We aim to fill all available places and inform a majority of candidates of their exam date/venue by the end of August. Candidates do not have a choice of venue or date of their examination and exam dates cannot be changed once assigned. If a candidate cannot sit the examination on a certain date/week, they need to inform the Examinations Team via exams@rcpi.ie before the exam has closed for public application so we can advise.

Applicants who cannot be offered a place for this exam, will remain on the waiting list. If a place becomes available due to a candidate withdrawing from the exam or not submitted their fees in time, this place will be offered to the next eligible person. The next examination to take place in Ireland following this diet, will be in January/February 2026.

Results for this clinical exam are expected to be released in mid November 2025.

Applications Closed Please note:
