Trainee Representation and Opportunities

RCPI Trainees Committee

Overview

TC 2425

The RCPI Trainees Committee is the ‘voice’ of Trainees in RCPI. We represent Trainees on many RCPI Committees and Boards throughout different areas of the College. We are also actively involved in the Steering Group for Retaining Medical Talent in Ireland, the EU Working Time Directive and numerous other working groups.

The RCPI Trainees Committee has always had an active interest in postgraduate specialist training and acts as an important interface between Trainees and RCPI. Our goal is to represent Trainees’ interests and work towards improving training.

We are also responsible for the organisation of the following awards and prizes:

  • The Corrigan Medal
  • The David Mitchell Award
  • The William Stokes Award
  • The Dorothy Stopford Price Medal
  • The Arthur Eakins Award
  • The Kate McGarry Prize

Every year we host National Education Day for Doctors in Training, the highlight event of the RCPI Trainee Calendar. At the annual event, Trainees showcase their excellence in research, case study and clinical audit, whilst learning from leaders in health and social care, technology and other areas of interest.

National Education Day 2025 took place on Friday, 23 May 2025 in RCPI, No. 6 Kildare Street. A report on the day including all the winners and photo gallery can be seen here.

Joining the Trainees Committee

Who can join the RCPI Trainees Committee?
Trainees in Basic Specialist Training, Higher Specialist Training, International Residency Programme and International Clinical Fellowship Programme can join the committee.

How do I join?
The RCPI Trainees Committee recruits new members each year and are voted in by RCPI Trainees.

Applications for the 2025/2026 Committee are now closed and voting will commence in early June.

The Trainees Committee members for 2025/2026 will be announced at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in June 2025.

"The Trainees Committee is a space where ideas turn into action, and where every trainee feels seen, supported, and empowered. Being Chair for a second year isn’t just about continuing the role: it’s an opportunity to keep supporting a team where everyone works together and feels included, and where future leaders can grow. I’ve seen firsthand the impact we can have when we work together, and I’m proud to continue supporting our causes and committed to making sure the trainee perspective is heard and respected at every level."

Dr Alessandra Biagini, Chair of the RCPI Trainees Committee 2025/26
